Wilmington, DE – As part of its 20th annual St. Patrick’s Day fundraiser, the St. Patrick’s Day Society will present Joe Conklin, Philadelphia master impressionist and radio personality. Conklin, known for his dead-on impressions of Barack Obama, Charles Barkley, and a litany of politicians, athletes and film stars, will headline the March 14 communion breakfast.

To date, the Wilmington-based event has raised nearly $2,000,000 for St. Patrick’s Center, a respite for people in need on Wilmington’s East Side. The mass and breakfast were the brainchild of some influential Delawareans, including Joe Farley, Sr. The former chairman of the Delaware State Democratic Party is proud that the event still embodies its original tradition and mission, despite its tremendous growth over the past two decades.

“We wanted Irish-Americans (and people who want to be Irish) to do something positive on St. Patrick’s Day,” says Farley, Sr., who still emcees the event. “Today, new generations are joining us to sing ‘Danny Boy’ and ensure that St. Patrick’s Center has resources it needs to serve Wilmington’s neediest.”

What started in a church basement with 300 attendees now boasts a sponsor’s dinner and parade to go along with the breakfast. Tickets are available at $50 per person; group sponsorships start at $500. Purchase through StPatricksCenter.org or by mail. Organizers expect more than 1,000 attendees.

Mass begins at St. Patrick’s Church on March 14 at 7:15 a.m. followed by a parade up King Street to the breakfast at the DoubleTree Hotel. The festivities kick off with a Sponsor’s Dinner on March 13. Full event details are available on the St. Patrick’s event page.
