How We Woke the Sleeping Giant of Innovation
FM believes deeply that the challenges of today won’t be the challenges of tomorrow. It’s imperative to constantly ask, “Why?” “What if?” and “How might we?” Always looking for new ways to satisfy unmet client needs. From this belief, they created an incubator (of sorts) that would pull smart, creative thinking from their entire organization. They asked us to help them position, name, brand and craft this story.
The Strategy
Through interviews with key leaders and a full-day innovation workshop, we came away with a core insight: Innovation doesn’t have to start from scratch. It’s thinking about things differently, finding new and better ways to solve problems. We took a tech-y word—“disruption”—and turned it around to talk about all the ways we’re actually disrupting client pain points like inefficiency, complexity and inertia.
“Disrupting problems. Together.” From this came our name. Innovation Factory represents the idea that FM is making real-world innovations. It’s not theoretical pie-in-the-sky. Great ideas emerge from tackling everyday problems.



The Success
Fresh ideas came flooding in. What if an engineer with only three years under her belt could quickly get 30 years of knowledge? What if hot work could be monitored in a new way? What if location wasn’t a barrier for in-field engineering? The enthusiasm was contagious and went far in “waking the sleeping giant of innovation” throughout the company.
