St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Family Carnival draws Over 9,000 to Bear parish
Bear, DE – After drawing more than 9,000 attendees, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Family Carnival concluded on Saturday July 21. This year marked the 24th anniversary of the traditional summer celebration at the Bear parish.
“Seton added some new entertainment and contests to this year’s carnival and the response was fantastic,” says Mark Quinn, a member of the carnival’s organizing committee. “Our volunteers make all the difference. We want a safe family environment at the Seton Carnival and our volunteers made that happen.” Braving some inclement weather, more than 125 volunteers each night donated their time during the six-day event, which raises money for St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.
Guests enjoyed dishes from Sansone’s Seafood and desserts from Rita’s Water Ice, and lounged at the Carnival’s inaugural sports bar. Also new this year was Wednesday night’s beautiful baby contest, judged by Miss Delaware and Miss Teen Delaware. The winners were:
- 0 – 6 months: Areyna and Xander
- 7 –12 months: Alessa
- 13 – 24 months: Arve and Oliver
- 25 – 36 months: Kylie and Pedro
Monday’s Carnival Kickoff featured the music of Tony Mowen and a performance by the Korean Martial Arts Institute. After back-to-back “Family Nights” on Tuesday and Wednesday, visitors were treated to a Thursday night fireworks show at dusk. Following a crowd-pleasing performance by the Emerald Academy Irish Dancers, Three Sheets rocked the big tent late into Friday night. The carnival concluded on Saturday with the traditional worker’s mass and a carnival-sized family dinner.
The Seton Family Carnival returns from July 15 to 20, 2013, for its 25th anniversary. Check out the carnival website for future volunteer opportunities.
